safety

DEFINED:

A condition of not being likely to cause harm or damage.

The state of being protected from harm.

IN USE:

Feelings of safety come through knowing. And the indeterminacy of darkness mediates that process of knowing, by introducing uncertainty.

Uncertainty in navigating urban space is also influenced by personal experience - the slow, internalised data collected by an individual over time, through bodily and material meeting points that render different ways of ‘taking into account’ conflicts.

These conflicts can be experienced in many ways in the form of micro-transgressions, physical obstructions, identification and payment processes - even as a material interaction through the manipulation of wave that we can’t determine or see.

The association of artificial light in our everyday experience of safety in urban space.
